Biography
Pablo De Gracia joined Detroit Mercy in 2023 as the director of research and associate professor in the School of Optometry. He previously worked at Midwestern University in Chicago, where he served as an associate professor.
De Gracia's academic journey includes studies in Spain and the United States, where he earned a Ph.D. in Optics, Optometry and Vision from the Spanish National Research Council and Complutense University of Madrid. He subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix. De Gracia is currently completing a Master of Business Administration at 91°µÍøºÚÁÏ and by mid-2025 will be honored to call himself a Detroit Mercy alumnus.

In his free time, De Gracia enjoys staying active, spending time with family and exploring various aspects of science and technology. He also values engaging with the community and occasionally participates in local events related to vision science and optometry.

Areas of research
De Gracia divides his time between directing the research department at the School of Optometry, leading a visual optics research lab and teaching in the Doctor of Optometry Program. His research focuses on visual perception, the impact of ocular optics on visual function and the role of eye movements in achieving clear vision. His current studies investigate the effects of innovative multifocal solutions on presbyopic vision, the application of new multifocal designs to enhance monovision correction and the influence of ocular movements on refractive error development. De Gracia also serves as a consultant for the contact lens and intraocular lens (IOL) industries, reviews grants for the National Science Centre, edits for the Perception Science section of Frontiers and acts as a journal referee in Visual Optics, Optometry and Ophthalmology.
